For many players, the Halloween event in World of Warcraft: Embers of Neltharion is all about grabbing new rewards and farming the Headless Horseman’s mount. Additionally, players can exchange sweets for rewards they want, if available. With the overlap of the 20th Anniversary and Halloween events, players may feel there’s a lot to tackle, but prioritizing the most desired items can make it manageable.
Gear Drops from the Headless Horseman: At the highest levels, items dropped now have an item level of 584.
Kaz'aghar’s Halloween Candy Tour: There are 18 new candy buckets to pick up in Kaz'aghar! Collecting from these locations grants the new achievement “Kaz'aghar’s Candy.”
Headless Horseman Event Boss Drops: The Headless Horseman will drop parts of the “Scarecrow of the Patch Reaper” transmog set (all except the back piece, which can be purchased separately). Each time you defeat the Headless Horseman, a random piece will drop until you have collected the full set.
Candy Buckets: Most inns have pumpkin-shaped candy buckets near the innkeepers. Each candy bucket offers a one-time quest that rewards a small amount of gold, experience, and a bag of treats, which includes 1–3 seasonal currency items (candies), and possibly masks or festive snacks like Fiery Cinnamon Balls, Gnome Goodies, Fel Taffy, and Happy Mints. You may also receive a "Trick" debuff, transforming you into various creatures such as a bat, cat, frog, mini-Diablo, snake, or wisp. Visiting all friendly inns on a continent will unlock an achievement.
Apple Buckets: Near the candy buckets, many inns also provide an “Apple Bucket” where you can bob for shiny apples.
The Headless Horseman is known for his stingy drop rate on his flying mount. This five-player dungeon boss is located in the Scarlet Monastery Graveyard. Players can queue for the battle via the Dungeon Finder, with a minimum level of 10 required.
Each daily defeat of the Headless Horseman rewards a loot-filled pumpkin, potentially containing the Headless Horseman’s Reins, loot-filled pumpkins, or an epic ring.
Hardcore mode is mainly for achievement hunters, so don’t jump into it without preparation!
In the dungeon entrance, five Will-o’-Wisps wait on the left. To trigger Hardcore mode, speak to each of them and receive their curses. Each smaller Will-o’-Wisp applies a unique curse, while the central Wisp applies all four curses at once.
Curse of Ember Flames: Cursed enemies periodically release Shadowflame in an area around them, adding a stack of Will-o’-Wisp’s Shadow to any caught in the blast.
Curse of Fiery Haunt: Cursed enemies spawn dark illusions ahead of them. Moving to these illusions dispels them; ignoring them adds two stacks of Will-o’-Wisp’s ShadoShadow’s Curse: Sinister laughter will bind the souls of cursed enemies in fear. The souls slowly move toward flames, and if they reach it, two stacks of Will-o’-Wisp’s Shadow are added.
Thorned Surprise: Piercing thorns periodically erupt beneath cursed enemies; being struck adds one stack of Will-o’-Wisp’s Shadow.
Each curse applies a personal debuff, affecting only the player. You can attempt Hardcore mode solo without affecting your party, although healers will likely face increased pressure. If you fail to dodge or properly execute mechanics, you’ll gain a stack of Will-o’-Wisp’s Shadow, reducing maximum health by 10% per stack.
The Will-o’-Wisps delight in your suffering; each stack reduces your max health by 10%.
If you’re near death, the Will-o’-Wisps will protect you, but you’ll lose all curses and forfeit any extra rewards.
Will-o’-Wisp’s Shelter: The Will-o’-Wisps protect you from death, reducing incoming damage and restoring health while removing all curses, forfeiting the bonus rewards.
